The return of Stirling Moss and the debut of the works Rovers attracted a very large crowd to Mallory Park last Sunday, and the BRSCC Midland Centre rose to the occasion by providing a very entertaining nine-race feast of motor racing which marked the opening of the 1980 Tricentrol British Saloon Car Championship. Sadly, as far as the crowd was concerned, Moss lasted but four laps in his Akai Audi before the throttle linkage fell apart. The Rovers fared little better with Allam's engine expiring within yards of the start and Rex Greenslade's car suffering tyre trouble and the ignominy of being lapped. The new Ford Fiestas went well, reigning champion Richard Longman finishing second overall, while Alan Curnow retired after a good run in his 1300 cc example. Jon Mowatt's Mini eventually took the baby division. |
