Division 2
Hans Stuck and Walter Brun missed practice since they were at Monaco with their M1s; there should have been a qualifying session on Sunday morning, but this was scrapped since a “small man with dark hair and glasses” told the organisers that this wasn’t legal; there should be at least 12 hours between qualifying and race.
Hans Heyer on the other hand had organised a helicopter and he was able to get some qualifying laps done.
A compromise was reached in that the Schnitzer team would start at the back - of the Group 5 cars, so row 5 here, but ahead of the Group 2-4 cars.
After the start, Ertl took the lead followed by Heyer, who lost contact after lap 15. But Ertl’s luck all had been used in 1978, since he retired yet again: failing electrics this time. Heyer won ahead of Niedzwiedz and Soldeck.

Division 1
This race too suffered from retirements; Ludwig, now in a ground-effect Capri retired with fuel feed problems, Stommelen broke his gearbox, and Plankenhorn, fastest in practice and leading the race for a short while before falling back behind Stommelen and Wollek broke his rear suspension and lost a wheel. So Wollek had an easy win, ahead of Merl and Dören. Two Pirelli wins in one weekend!

The Group 2-4 classes were won by Jürgensen (BMW M1) and Hamelmann after König retired with a broken differential.

By the way, the “small man with dark hair and glasses” turned out to be Domingos Piedade, Lancia team manager...
