Division 1
The championship for Ludwig was close - but on the tight short Hockenheim circuit anything could happen, even if a fourth place was enough. One enemy was missing: Fitzpatrick’s car was sold to Gschwendner hours before practice, and since Schurti was better placed in the Porsche cup, Fitz was left without a drive. Instead, a dangerous new enemy took part: no other than Hans Heyer, whose oversize engine moved his Capri up to division 1.
But Kremer’s luck had ran out, it seemed; after a mild crash in first practice (sticking throttle) in practice 2 the rear wheel joint broke, the wheel came off and Ludwig crashed head-on in the wall. Ludwig complained of shoulder pain, and his K3 could not be repaired here. He was able to drive four laps in Plankenhorn’s car and then went to a doctor.
No pole for Klaus this time, instead it was Stommelen with Wollek second and Heyer third on the grid. Stommelen had an excellent start and led, while Wollek’s turbo hose came off, handicapping Wollek considerably. After lap one, Stommelen still led, ahead of Ludwig and Plankenhorn, but soon it was Schurti in second - until his fuel pump stopped feeding. He switched to reserve, and after three laps it was all OK again - but he had fallen back to fifth. Behind Stommelen, Ludwig and Plankenhorn it was Heyer who enjoyed himself immensely. On the straights he was eaten by the Porsches, but the curves were his terrain.
Only three laps before the end, it was over for Stommelen: a con rod screw broke. The rest of the order remained unchanged, and the champagne was opened in the Kremer pits for their first ever DRM title.
The Rennsport-Trophäe was settled by Dören in the Max Moritz Porsche 934, a fourth place was enough for him.

Division 2
It was finally Höttinger’s day, with a pole and a win. But Ertl pressured him more than 20 laps, until he met Albert who was to be lapped. There was a misunderstanding, and it ended in tears. Winkelhock had a fight with Bürger but the latter lost his nerves and hit Winkelhock; Surer drove Schnitzer’s new car but spun and damaged the engine.
Behind winner Höttinger, Siegfried Müller Jr drove a fine race with Ertl’s spare Capri and finished second.
