Division 1
Bob Wollek had been tight-lipped during the season, but he was furious now after the race - telling the Kremer Porsche always spread oil, right on his windscreen; so he had to miss breaking points. It’s hard to imagine that that had been Wollek’s main problem this season so far, but still.
Loos had found no reason to quit, Wollek’s car had been in the factory and got a new rear suspension and a couple of other errors were cured. The car’s oversteering was reduced, but the oil-crisis made it difficult to judge the improvement, even for Georg Loos... Plankenhorn now had a K3-ish car, the 1978 Wollek car with the upside-down gearbox, aero improvements but it lacked many details of Ludwig's car.
In practice, Wollek crashed into the tires which formed the chicane, and opening it for Schurti who promptly got pole!
After the start, Schurti led for four full laps, until Ludwig went by and when Schurti was pushed to third by Wollek he had a nice fight with Stommelen; when they both spun (with oil on the windscreen, remember) Stommelen was eventually third. Of course, Ludwig won again in fine style, and a clear windscreen, driving ahead is the best solution anyway.
Mass won the Group 2-4 class after a fight with Konrad, while Regazzoni hit a tire and retired.

Division 2
Heyer was confident that his 55,58 seconds were good enough for provisional pole, but late in the session Ertl went out and improved to 55,35. Winkelhock took the soft compound tires, went out and blew his turbo; in the second session, he tried again but oil lost by a Group 2 car spoiled his lap. Heyer, in the mean time had improved before the oil was on the track and had pole. The Sachs-rentadrive Capri was driven this time by Klaus Niedzwiedz who was seventh of the grid despite many problems in practice.
In the race, after 12 laps rain started to fall; the race was red flagged and started over again, for 30 laps this time. The 8 minutes pause was used by the Schnitzer mechanics to replace an exhaust, 2 radiators and to correct the front suspension, after a collision with a group 2 BMW. The car looked terrible - but it got going again. Ertl had the same sort of problem after a touch with Boller’s Escort - a radiator was replaced but after the new start his head gasket blew within four laps.
Team mate Heyer had an untroubled run to victory, with Höttinger - plagued by handling troubles - a distant second. In third: Winkelhock with a boiling engine and a door on fire.
