In Group 1, there was a protest even before the start; the two dominating Ford Fiestas were Group 1 cars all right, but not of “national production”... the cars seemed to be disqualified after the event. For a while, Sanchez (Citroën) tried to keep up, but Jonama and then Escuder disposed of the reigning champion and disappeared into the distance. Since Jonama retired, it was left to Escuder to win the class. The big class was dominated by Sanjurjo. He escaped soon after the start, followed by Secades and "Tato" Henstenberg, but in lap eighth lap a blocked throttle meant a coming together with Secades, sending one into the pits and the other into retirement. Victory was for Henstenberg. In Group 2, Bäbler was ahead of the works cars despite smoke trailing from his car, which ended in lap 10 when he threw a rod, leaving the way clear for Cañellas. After the official "Seat", the two Chryslers of Peñecoba and Martin Cantero followed though the order was revised when Peñecoba’s engone gave up. |
