The big final: though the tension was reduced considerably since the last meeting, there was still excitement even after just a glance at the entry list. There was an entry for Loos and the Baby Porsche, though Fitzpatrick was missing - he raced at Bathurst instead. But the Porsche could not be prepared in time, Ludwig would start in Division 1 after all and Stommelen was not available either.

Division 2
Winkelhock had fallen out with teamchef Hohmann; the chef himself would drive, but a flew made this impossible. So for Ertl no Winkelhock to worry about, and all the other BMW’s would not pass the Sachs car anyway, Neerpasch had ordered.
Friday had rain, not unusual for the Eifel, but young Hans-Georg Bürger did the impossible by piloting Krebs’ former car third fastest, behind Heyer and Ertl. On Saturday, Heyer made it 4 out of 4 and put the Capri on pole, with Ertl second in the newer car, Hahne third and Grohs in the Faltz-farewell race fourth. The next row consisted of the two GS cars, Höttinger just a little faster than new man Bürger.
Heyer and Hahne took the lead after the start, with Ertl taking it easy in third. Behind Ertl, others fell back: Höttinger and Grohs lost first gear, Brun retired (engine), Hahne retired (valve), and Ketterer lost turbo pressure. Finally, Bürger (third!) was black flagged for a slight oil haze, unnecessary! In the end, Heyer got a deserved win and Ertl a deserved championship, his first! And the podium for privateer Karl-Heinz Becker was the icing on the cake.

Division 1
It would be the last race for the Max Moritz team; no wonder after all mishaps, but it would be a miss for Division 1. Hezemans claimed pole, after testing Fitzpatrick’s car as well, with Wollek second, Ludwig third and Schurti fourth.
The championship was already decided, but there still was the Porsche cup. Wollek took the lead for good, Hezemans was very close in the first laps but had to settle for second, Ludwig was not allowed to put pressure on Hezemans (the Porsche cup again) and Schurti had an off-road excursion in lap 1 when he had to avoid Ludwig - the pit stop for a puncture and damaged bodywork could hardly stop him, he finished fifth in the end, behind Wollek, Hezemans, Ludwig and
Jöst.
