The Nivelles track wasn’t dead yet, but few spectators knew - or went to Zolder with a much more interesting German programme. The race for Production under 1600 cc was spectacular, with many incidents. Behind Tassin and De Deyne, Gaspard had a gap to the next group, where a fierce battle raged between Toby, Piessens and Van der Rest. Unfortunately, Tassin had to retire with the race in hand, so De Deyne had a lucky victory. The big Production cars were spiced by “wild” Willy Braillard who fought right to the end with J Martin for second in the race, behind Semoulin. Willy lost by just a few tenths. No Vanierschot here, so Boxberger had an easy victory over Holvoet in the Group 5 under 1600 cc race. The other Group 2/5 race was a farce, with Bourgoignie way ahead of the rest. |
