It was all about money once again at Kassel; the privateers risked to lose their price money if less than 5 cars were entered - so they threatened to move out altogether, thus depriving Division 1 of points. In the end, the Group 5 teams moved a little money to the privateers and things went their normal way.

Division 1
Wollek led from start to finish, though Hezemans had been quicker after practice. Schurti (handling problems) had qualified third. Jöst returned with a rebuilt car after Le Mans, and Konrad concentrated on F3 and playing team manager.
Wollek had taken the lead right after the start, with the Gelo train second to fourth, Schurti fifth and Jöst sixth. They would finish in that order, despite Jöst having a puncture.
Wollek had to fight hard to stay in the lead, but when Merl had to be lapped he blocked the Dutchman quite a while, perhaps a return for the accident in Mainz. Hezemans never recovered from the eight seconds he lost,

Division 2
Ertl and his new car were way fastest in practice, 1,5 in front of Winkelhock with an old atmospheric engine in his car; team boss Hohmann on holiday, Basche had left the team - not an ideal situation. Winkelhock used an English licence and was therefore unable to score points. Heyer could not do any better than fourth, but a new Capri turbo was waiting for him at the next round. Krebs’ Turbo BMW was considered undrivable in practice after a big crash at Schauinsland and left on Saturday. The story of the race is told quickly: Ertl in the lead, some distance to Winkelhock, only a battle for third between Heyer and Höttinger - which was ended when Höttinger damaged his fuel tank on a kerb, after he was already handicapped by a damaged radiator.
