On Sunday, a wet and muddy Donington Park witnessed the latest instalment in the Tricentrol International RAC British Saloon car championship. As is now usual, there were two races, for the up to 1600 cc contenders and the over 1600 cc cars and drivers. Both races provided the crowd with plenty of action and a fair measure of interest, with Richard Lloyd winning the small race with his VW Golf and Gordon Spice winning the larger race, after a very strong and nearly successful challenge from the similar Capri of Jeff Allam. It was unfortunate therefore that both the race results should then be declared provisional after "one or two checks" following the race by Howard Mason of the RAC and others. Certain parties were very aggrieved by what happened and it remains to be seen how long the RAC will take to clarify the points in question regarding engines, rose joints and so on. They said on Monday that they will be getting together in the very near future. Let's hope that they mean this, because the whole championship could so very easily be turned into a shambles because of their nonchalant attitude. |
