A clear victory for Oñoro here, despite his oil pressure breaking down in the final laps. Strangely enough, the points leaders Bäbler and Juncosa scored no points here; while Bäbler suffered from carburation problems, Juncosa retired with a broken oil line, only 7 seconds behind Oñoro. But there were a few strange things happening too. Martin Cantero couldn’t start because of a broken head gasket - parts of his car were used to repair Oñoro’s Chrysler. Jaime Sanz de Madrid, whose car stopped on the warmup lap with damaged piping and cables under the bonnet - very suspicious indeed. While Bäbler and Juncosa took command, after the start, Oñoro soon went by; and in the same lap Blanco smashed his Opel to pieces. The group 1 race saw the victory of the Ford Escort RS of Frenchman Chambres, which was clearly superior over the Seat 1430s - with the exception of Carlos Jodar, who remained close until the last few laps. |
