Division 1
Stommelen got pole in a straight fight with Wollek; 1.9 bar turbo boost meant 51,5 seconds and an unofficial track record - faster than Formula 2 or Interserie had ever been. Schurti was third fastest, fourth Peter Gregg in a second Kremer 935 K2.
Wollek took the lead in the race, but ran wide in the first hairpin - Stommelen and Schurti passed him on the inside. While Wollek retired after 13 laps with a big engine failure, Stommelen and Schurti had a terrific fight, Schurti taking the lead finally after they lapped Schenken - Stommelen’s teammate!
Schurti took some distance, but then he came in, suspecting a puncture. It was a damaged rim, Schurti could only secure second place but got a round of applause from the grandstands.

Division 2
A surprise entry was the 1.4 “Baby” Porsche 935, with the weight reduced to 750 kg, the capacity to 1.4 litres, one turbo and 370 HP. The car was troublesome and clocked only 13th after final practice. The new Zakspeed car for Heyer was still being developed, but clocked pole, while Andreas Schall had the first Turbo-320, but was in a different league nonetheless. Röhrl, replacing the injured Krebs, was third fastest, behind Cheever. Hezemans had built a new car as well, and was fourth fastest.
The race was not the cleanest in the history of the DRM, or more probably, German touring car racing altogether. The start was relatively neat, Röhrl taking the lead until he missed a gear and got a tap from behind - from Heyer - which broke the rear axle of the turbo car. Cheever took the lead which he would never lose, but behind him Heyer fought with Winkelhock (who took it easy and waited for an error of the old master) and Surer (who tried everything to pass Heyer). After the hairpin, Surer finally touched Heyer, who spun and dropped back with damaged bodywork - but Heyer got up to speed again and got back to Winkelhock. Surer, who had been in the pits following contact with Hahne, returned to the frame, right in front of the Heyer/Winkelhock battle. Now Surer pushed Heyer into the armco, Winkelhock slipped through while both Surer and Heyer spun. Heyer raced on, with only three wheels pointing in the right direction, and finished fourth. Hahne, after his pit stop, banged into the rear of Cheever - unnecessary since he was some laps down on the leader. The last victim of the Norisring war was Hennige - he was pushed off as well.

Geldrennen
The Division 2 cars had some troubles to be prepared in time for this last race; only two hours were not enough for Cheever’s car, Surer’s car was too damaged, but both Hahne and Heyer took the start with cars looking quite in order. In division 1, only Wollek’s Porsche was not able to take part. This was solved by putting Wollek in the Martini 935 while Ickx again drove the baby Porsche. Hezemans took over the second Loos car, while the Dutchman’s Escort was piloted by Klaus Ludwig.
Hezemans took the lead with high boost, and disappeared into the distance. Schurti passed the Martini car and closed in on Hezemans - a slow puncture on the Loos car finally ended the drive. Stommelen now got to the front, but a stone damaged his oil cooler, making it necessary to pit twice for oil and a clean widow. Schurti finally had his deserved victory with Wollek second and Stommelen still third. Winkelhock, driving neat, finished fourth and won division 2 - also helped by the fact that his competitors ran in all sorts of problems. Röhrl, way in the lead and in between the Porsches, lost his differential, Heyer broke his rear axle, Hahne had ignition troubles and Ludwig lost his engine oil. The last opponent for Winkelhock, Hennige, also had ignition troubles and could only manage third in class, behind the baby Porsche.
