Five real Group 5 cars at the start - the ETCC wasn’t the only championship in bad shape. Faltz had entered his long-distance 320 with Cheever and another young man called Gilles Villeneuve. Pole was for the Martini Porsche of Ickx/Schurti, with the Vasek Polak 935 of Follmer/Lunger second, the Turbo BMW 320 (Hobbs/Peterson) third and then the first TransAm car of Gregg and Wollek. Behind them, Heimrath/Miller; Heimrath would spice the proceedings here a little. He started with a protest against Gregg’s rear suspension. |
