Division 1
More engine troubles for Schurti - they were on the verge of giving up altogether, but in the end a works engine was assembled in Zuffenhausen on Saturday night and the job was completed in time for the race. Stommelen got pole and won the race with Wollek second, Schenken third and Schurti fourth. The other starters had no chance, and only while Kremer entered a 934 and a street-930 raced as well, there were 11 starters, enough for points.

Division 2
A new and interesting car was entered by karl-Heinz Becker, whose 2002 was stolen; he built his own 320 but lacked the money for a works kit. Designer Luigi Colani, of Eifelland-F1 “fame”, created a very unusual body kit. The engine was an old Schnitzer one, and teething problems did not help to get the car to the front.
Zakspeed built a new space-frame car for Heyer, which had a lower weight than the previous one: 749 kg, with the limit being 735 kg.
But it looked like an easy double victory for Schnitzer here, since the turbo’s were clearly the fastest cars. But, as so often, the unexpected happened. First Hennige had to pit with clutch troubles, lost four laps and returned to the frame right behind the leading Krebs. Hennige, not the most popular driver since his strike-breaking action at Kassel-Calden 1976, clearly blocked Krebs’ followers. When he finally retired, they made up ground to Krebs, who ran out of brakes and retired as well. Heyer had a big fight with Surer and Winkelhock but held the upper hand, with Surer second and Winkelhock again on the podium.
