Tom Walkinshaw certainly made up for his long series of saloon disappointments over Easter. After winning at Oulton Park on Good Friday his run of success held up at Thruxton on Monday as well when he won another round of the Keith Prowse RAC Touring Car Championship in his familiar Hermetite 3-litre Capri. Once again British Leyland's challenge ended prematurely with a broken valve spring as Andy Rouse's immaculate blue and white Dolomite Sprint dropped back into second place after leading Walkinshaw's Capri for the first six of the race's 22 laps. Gordon Spice's Capri just fended off a determined Chris Craft's similar car in a doorhandle-to-doorhandle confrontation on the last lap, and Gerry Marshall's Vauxhall Magnum vanquished Colin Vandervell's Capri in a similarly tense dispute. |
