For 19 laps of Sunday's saloon car race, second round in the Keith Prowse Touring Car Championship, Andy Rouse's Dolomite Sprint had battled valiantly with the Capris of Tom Walkinshaw and Chris Craft. With less than half a lap left to run, Rouse had certain victory within his grasp when suddenly the Leyland car faltered and pulled off at Club Corner, leaving a fortuitous win to Craft's Hammonds-sponsored Ford. What a sauce you might think! The Scrutineer thought so too, and after the race excluded Craft's car for running without an air cleaner, therefore handing Brands Hatch winner Gordon Spice his second victory in the series with his Wisharts Capri. |
