The Triumph Dolomite Sprint proved to be most competitive in French Group 1. Lafosse and Metge occupied the front row, while in the race Metge won with Lafosse third, Greder (Opel Commodore) splitting the British cars after an inspired run from 9th.

Fréquelin had been leading with his BMW with Lafosse holding on to second, until the BMW’s engine broke and Lafosse spun on its oil. That cost him victory, since Metge slipped by.
