Friday's programme opened with a round of the Keith Prowse British Touring Car Championship, which was won by Tom Walkinshaw's Hermetite Capri, but not without a considerable fight. Vince Woodman was a non-starter after his Capri blew its engine up the night before practice on the test bed and Richard Lloyd's Opel only managed a lap before overheating again, but there were still five cars covered by a kangaroo skin up at the head of the race.
Gordon Spice made a terrific start from the third row of the grid with his Wisharts Capri to hound Walkinshaw into the first lap and Andy Rouse's Dolomite and the Capris of Colin Vandervell and Brian Muir were soon tagged right behind.
Gradually Walkinshaw and Spice moved clear of the other three, but although the first two didn't change places to the finish the second trio scrapped away for third place right to the end. Eventually Muir just beat Vandervell and Rouse over the line before pulling off, boiling. Barrie Williams took over the second Samurai Toyota Celica but couldn't stay with Win Percy, who scored his habitual win in the 1600 cc class.

The smallest Keith Prowse class was run in with the two smaller Radio 1 classes, but in contrast to the other two saloon races the end product was decidedly dull. Bernard Unett's Avenger GT dominated the race to win the 1300 cc Touring Car class while John Brindley's Mazda led the production saloons home by miles. Peter Hilliard's Alfa Junior got the best of a dice with Malcolm Wayne's Alfasud to claim third place.
