The opening races of the 1976 season were a bit disappointing. After a wet practice, race day was dry.

A: Group 1 under 1300 cc
A few of the front-runners of last season were missing; Lammers, Bökenkamp and Hutzezon moving up to a Kadett GT/E, Hofstede moving to England. Zwaanenburg led almost the whole race - but was beaten on the line by Derr.

B: Group 1 1300-2500 cc
Many new faces and new cars here. In the 1600 cc class, a welcome addition was an immaculate Alfetta 1.6; but Maasland could only manage 8th, behind Maassen (who lost part of his exhaust but was not black flagged) with a Giulia Super in second place, while Hemmes finished third in her Celica. Overall Lammers was clearly the fastest, but when he eased off, Houthuyzen came close and even beat him at the line! The new Firenza retired in clouds of smoke, while the equally new Escort Mk2 RS were a bit disappointing.

C: Group 2 and 4 under 1300 cc; Group 1 over 2500 cc
A clever mix, in terms of speed; but very few Dutch entries in the big Group 1 field - lucky there were Belgians who joined the fray.
The Group 2 field was disappointing; a few new Alpine 1300’s seemed the right choice, the brand-new car of Cleutjens winning the race after a dice with Slotemaker’s Camaro - but the latter had to retire with ignition problems. The 1150 class was weak - it was won by 1975 champ van der Beek, the 1000 cc class fell to the Hillman of Kok, its only serious opponent (Antonides) retired.

D: Group 2 and 4 over 1300 cc
The 2000 cc class had only one entry: the Alpine of Vanierschot - he won. The big class had just seven starters; with the Dutch Capri and BMW missing because of the new regulations, Deen’s Corvette and the De Tomaso of Rubens were the fastest cars. But times around 1.40 were slightly disappointing. An interim car was brought to Zandvoort for Huub Vermeulen; since his Mazda was not ready yet, the 1975 Group 1,5 Commodore was hastily prepared to the new Group 2 rules; a fastest lap of just over 1.40 meant that the job was well done.
Deen won the race, just ahead of Rubens.
