It was great weather as usual, but the entry was a little disappointing - no works cars whatsoever, despite the fact that on this particular track the 934’s would run into brake troubles - so a BMW or a Capri would have had chances here.
But no, and the program would consist of two heats for the DRM, of which division 1 would form the “Final” with a lot of prize money. As well, a race for the Euro GT championship would take place before the DRM races.
The heat brought many new ideas, to cool the brakes (although this was not allowed - but with a fine of 1 DM this was dealt with) as well as the drivers.

In division 2, the Spiess team already had troubles in practice; his engine expired on the warm-up for practice, in the race the car retired without brakes after only two laps. The story of the race can be kept short: Ford was dominant, BMW had massive problems and Opel did not figure at all - Trint was 11th in practice with “adventurous handling” and retired in the race with a broken gearbox.
Obermoser was third in practice, Bienefeld fifth followed by Krebs and Denzel - but in lap 12 Denzel retired in clouds of smoke. Ten laps later Bienefeld was out of brakes, and a little later Obermoser, who had been in second place, retired with a broken gear lever. To finish off a terrible weekend for BMW, Krebs retired as well with a broken engine. The Ford camp was happy, of course, and Zakspeed finished 1-2-3 in the order Ludwig, Heyer and Hennige, with Schommers in fourth place.

Division 1 was more exciting, since Wollek and Hezemans had a close fight. Wollek had taken the lead after the start, but in lap 13 Hezemans went by and defended his lead with style. Wollek nearly ran into a group with slower cars once and spun, but continued and closed in on Hezemans again. Unfortunately, the dynamo belt failed and the Porsche’s battery lasted only until lap 63 - 7 laps short. Stenzel finished second, while Kelleners had a puncture short before the end, so Schickentanz in the Carrera completed the trio on the rostrum
