Pictures

The Kremer-Loos war continued at the Mainz-Finthen Airfield track. Kremer had tried to get a German licence for Wollek for some time, and finally Wollek was granted the paper which would give him a chance for the German title. Notwithstanding all kinds of rules, Loos pulled the same trick in a fraction of the time to enable Schenken and Hezemans the same favour.
In practice, Wollek came in with his brake ducts on fire; Hezemans changed from turbo to RSR which was only 1/10 of a second slower. “The 934 doesn’t brake at all!”
Someone even less happy with the difficult 934 turbo was Kelleners; in practice, he rolled the car - he became a non-starter.
Practice in division 2 saw a front row with Heyer, Hennige and Schommers. Ludwig, sometimes accused not to be a team player, overdid things when he moved out of the way while having a temperature problem for his team-mate Hennige: he hit a pile of tires breaking his front suspension. He was 18th on the grid as a result.
Division 2 had a standing start, and Heyer led from start to finish. But Ludwig was the star of the race, climbing from 18th to second at the finish.
For division 1, a flying start had been chosen. Stenzel overdid things, was too fast in the first corner and lost his front spoiler. Hezemans was second for a while until his brakes gave up. Schenken attacked Wollek, once outbraked him but his brakes failed too and he had to let Wollek go. With a bent car he still finished second in front of Stenzel.
