This was a unique race - its entry lacked any of the top teams! After a row between the organisers and the teams (about money, what else) most of the teams boycotted the race, leaving it to the privateers for a change. Even an attempt to bribe a Porsche driver to withdraw failed, and both classes had enough starters to make this a valid championship race.
So the top-teams and their drivers were absent - with the exception of Hennige, whose sponsor paid the whole year just for this race; so Hennige took the risk of being sacked by Zakowski, hired Schall’s 16-valve BMW and started.

Despite the field, both races were entertaining. In division 1, some Rallye drivers were invited to make it even less attractive to bribe any other driver.
Neuhaus and Dören both clocked 1.04,0, and Dören led 39 of 40 laps. But Neuhaus launched an attack, made contact and forced Dören into a spin. Dören was not happy and finished second.

In division 2, it seemed like a 1974 Zakspeed car was present - it was in fact Jörg Denzels car, which he lent to Knut Jäger. Even a rear tire was marked “Heyer h.r.”. Another front runner was Wolf in the Scirocco, but Hennige was best off the mark, took the lead - and had a massive spin in lap 2. He had to restart dead last. In the mean time, Roppes had taken the lead and was only challenged by Bischoff - until the latter retired. Hennige sliced through the field, was ninth in lap 5, in lap 10 he was fourth behind Roppes, Bischoff and Wolf. He climbed to second but still had some distance between him and Roppes. But lap after lap he closed the gap, and finally Roppes spun - getting a puncture in the process. So Hennige won in front of Wolf and Jäger -
and was sacked, of course.
