The Grand Prix support race was a non-championship event. A few cars form abroad were invited, so the field looked pretty decent (no less than 5 BMW CSL’s turned up!) but practice showed that racing is a dangerous sport. First there were smiles when Tricot ran out of brakes at the end of the straight, flew over the tyre wall and landed in the middle of the Martini billboard - and escaped unharmed. His pole-time was useless since we was a non-starter, The race was less important now, but still turned out fine. Vanierschot shot into the lead, helped by the gap of Tricot, but retired soon. Deen had to start in the midfield since his engine did not rev over 4,000 in practice - he used the grass after the start, but Carlier was too fast today, even beating Siewertsen in the turbo Porsche. The fastest lap of Deen (1.41,6) makes you wonder where all the horses in Cees’ car were - his car should have been capable of 1.38 at least. The lower classes had very small entries, winners were Bergmeister (2000), Redeker (1300) and Splinter (1150). |
