The first race looked promising.
Gordon Spice returned to racing with a well-deserved win for Ford in the opening round of the Keith Prowse British Touring Car Championship; but it was a victory secured only after Andy Rouse's fierce challenge had evaporated three laps from home when his Dolomite's accelerator pedal stuck to the floor. Gerry Marshall (Vauxhall Magnum), Win Percy (Toyota Celica) and Bernard Unett (Hillman Avenger) took the smaller class wins, and new lap records for the revised GP circuit were established by Chris Craft, Rouse, Percy and Unett.
