Another event dominated by Luigi BMW; the semi works Capris (Blackburn/Crabtree) and Opels (Vermeulen/Frankenhout and Tricot/Vanierschot) were unable to catch up with the Valvoline car. Pole, a win in the qualifying heat, a win in the final as well as the round for the Belgian championship more or less compensated for the bad luck in 1973 and early 1974. 15 wins this summer, and the Belgian title for Xhenceval.
His co-driver in the final, Hughes de Fierlant, was coming to grips better and better with the car, a fact underlined by fastest lap.

Manche 1 (under 1600 cc)
Stukenbrock (Toyota Celica) headed Braillard (Celica) after the start, and they were followed by Jacquemin (Sunbeam Avenger) and De Deyne (Alfa Romeo GTJ); while Stukenbrock had a slight off, Braillard took over with Jacquemin second; Dedeyne however retired with a broken piston. Steadily climbing up through the field was Nowak, who would reach third in the end. In division 1, Laplume (Flat 128) had to give way to Polak (Simca Rallye 2) but resisted the pressure of Van Peer (Simca), while Marquet (Avenger) ended in the rails.

Manche 2 (over 1600 cc)
Xhenceval took the lead, followed by Tricot while Blackburn was closely followed by the 2 litres of Muir (Triumph Dolomite) and De Deyne (Ford Escort RS), preceding Vermeulen. In lap 6, the Dutchman gained three places. The Mazda of Markey was very disappointing; fast in a straight line but unstable in the curves. Muir, with gearbox troubles, let De Deyne past in lap 12 and was catched by the sister car of “Christine”. Before halfway, the race lost much of its interest since Wauters (Opel Group 1), in a close fight with Joosen (idem) gave up, and Vaney (Dolomite) who was fighting for 14th place with Corbisier (Capri) and Nijsten (2000 Alfa GTV) left the road and went over the rails in the chicane.

Final
Crabtree took the lead for a short while, but de Fierlant soon put things right and Crabtree even dropped to third behind De Deyne, but the latter soon had to give up that excellent position and fell back behind Crabtree and Vermeulen. Vanierschot (Opel) was more spectacular than efficient, while Rubens had to fight off the 1600 cc leaders de Saint-Hubert (teammate of Braillard), Stukenbrock and Jacquemin.
De Deyne dropped back with a broken exhaust manifold, but more serious was the accident of Rubens; while challenged by the 1600 cc cars, Stukenbrock touched him while braking for the chicane after Rubens claimed back his position. The touch was light, the speed was relatively low but the consequences are dear: the car rolled, Rubens’ seat broke and he was seriously injured. Thankfully, he would recover from the accident. De Saint-Hubert, avoiding the Datsun, left the road and retired too. Further retirements were Vanierschot (engine), Stukenbrock and Crabtree (brake fire).
The Luigi refuelling stop with driver change was ultra quick, and afterwards the Dutch Opel was one lap behind. Jacquemin was an excellent third, only challenged by Holvoet junior. Joosen was a lonely fifth, while Muir and Metge (Dolomite) finally came sixth after an early stop, are already 7th they will finish sixth after a race without problems. The end of the race is monotonous Xhenceval turns three seconds slower than testing, the rhythm of his second Frankenhout, teammate Vermeulen. A 3 laps Jacquemin (Sunbeam Avenger) temporarily overwhelmed by Holvoet during pit stops, did the forcing, returns to the Toyota and the double to win his class and get on the 3rd step of the podium. In 1300, the Simca of Polak and Van Peer suffered mechanical problems so it was the Fiat of Laplume-Distefano winning ahead of Clohse-Taels.
