Vince Woodman beat the fellow Camaros of poleman Stuart Graham and Richard Lloyd off the line to be first into Riches, but passing the pits for the first time Graham's car was ahead of Woodman's with a gap to Lloyd already, Graham's lead was never challenged and by the finish he had extended the advantage to 50 seconds and set a new lap record. Woodman stayed equally secure in second even when after 15 laps his car became jammed in third gear.
Behind him, Richard Lloyd found his new 7.4-litre engine very flat and was passed first by Brian Pepper's General Relays Camaro and then by Gordon Spice's class-winning Capri, only just being saved the embarrassment of being lapped by Graham. Two others who would have further demoted Lloyd, if their cars had lasted, were Muir and Rouse. Yogi suffered an electrical fault early on and then his usually fiery drive was concluded when a wheel bearing failed. Points leader Rouse, after moving ahead of Spice, had settled into a typically determined record breaking run and looked to be heading for a class win when it all vanished along with his oil pressure. Team-mate Roger Bell retrieved the class award for Ralph Broad's team.
In the four-strong small class the two Samurai Racing/Toyota GB Celicas of Win Percy and Rex Greenslade took on the Halesfield Motors duo of Bernard Unett and Jenny Birrell in Avengers. Percy quickly built a fine class lead only for the distributor drive to jump out leaving the honours to Unett.
