Ciardi, Nappi and Finotto would go at the top of the points table before the last round at Varano. But first, Monza.

500 cc
A full grid, seven cars could not qualify - the Italian championship seemed to get a new lease of life at Monza. Lagana and Aimaro took the lead, followed by Zadotti, Piroli, “El Diable” and Capri. (Garavello). Lagana’s teammate Zadotti slipped between Aimaro and Lagana, and even took the lead in lap 12, while Aimaro has to repair a loose spark plug cable in the pits. Lagana went ahead again, but with ten laps to he dropped back handing the win to Zadotti.

600 & 700 cc
Padrone took the lead, Galluzzo countered but in lap 2 Padrone was on top again. Third was Nocci, fourth Carena, while the 600s were led by "Helsa poppin" ahead of Ciardi and "Tibeli". Padrone soon broke his differential, while Carena now had a fight with Galluzzo. In lap 15, Carena pushed off his opponent and took the lead, followed at a distance by Nocci. In 600 "Tibeli" took over and kept Ciardi at a safe distance.

850 and 1000 cc
A monotonous race was expected, but instead Pasolini and Binati had a fine fight until Pasolini retired with engine troubles shortly before the end. In 850 Amighini started quite slow but managed to win his class novertheless.

1150 & 1300 cc
Four cars were able to win: the 16 valve Escort of "Pal Joe", the two Balduzzi GTAs of Perego and Confortola (the latter with a new 16-valve cylinder head), and the Galmozzi 128 coupé of Colzani. After the start "Pal Joe" led, and went on to win, ahead of Confortola and Colzani.
In 1150 Battistini was leading, but was then attacked by "Gilena" - both cars touched and their rhythm was broken. Squillace took advantage of this and won the class.

Over 1600 cc
Finotto had, apart from the usual suspect Ruoso, another formidable opponent: Merzario in the Valtellina Escort, a car which appeared on the title page of Sport-Auto (Germany) number 5, 1975 - and probably not only impressed me as 16-years old. The car, on pole, however, would stop four laps from the end, so it was another victory for Finotto. He departed third, behind Ruoso and Grano, while Merzario was fifth. But not for long: the small man with the big hat soon led the field. In 1600 Ciro Nappi had no trouble at all for his class win, meanwhile Finotto doesn’t give up, on two wheels through the chicanes, unlike Merzario who seems to have it all under control. Finotto would need a miracle to win, and four laps from the end the oil pressure on Merzario’s car dropped and he had to retire.
