Mainz-Finthen was, thanks to the cancellation of the second AVUS race and Niederstetten, the penultimate round for the championship. Four drivers had a chance for the championship: Dören, Dahlhäuser, Wolf and Stöhr-Odenthal.

Rennen 1
Walz had a bad start, but he managed to pass the others one by one; just before the end, he was third behind Rische and Will. When Will passed Rische, Walz saw his chance too, so the finishing order was an unexpected Will, Walz and Rische.

Rennen 2
Two Audi 50’s, Tubbesing in the LB Fiat, Sander and Steinert formed a fine field. Tubbesing was away quickest, but had to pit with ignition troubles soon. A fight between the Audi men Preukschat and Lilier resulted in victory for the latter, with Steinert third.

Rennen 3
Wolf was one of the contenders; he had to deal with Bergmeister, Fischer and Bischoff to name a few. The latter’s engine expired on the starting line, and Wolf took a comfortable lead. But then his drive shaft broke, en that was the end for any championship chances. Bergmeister won the race.

Rennen 4
Dahlhäuser was the second candidate; but there were many BMW’s and an Escort TC for Hennige to keep him busy. A bad start meant there was work to be done. But he could ignore Hennige; the Escort TC broke its gearbox at the starting grid, the flag dropped and a Group 1 Celica crash into the back of the stationary car. Dahlhäuser had an inspired drive and passed the BMW’s one by one. In lap 8, he was leading and kept his position to the flag.

Rennen 5
Schall and Wollstadt were the fastest men but both retired, handing victory to Mayer. The GT section was initially led by Krasser, until he retired; then Laub and Schütz took over, leading Dören! The latter could pass Schütz but the victory went to Laub. 15 precious points for Dören.

Rennen 6
The GT class had too few entries (Sindel won), the touring class was won by the RS3100 of Odenthal with Neumann second.
