Back to normal at Hockenheim - the tension, even in the Ford family, was reduced.

Division 1
Porsches were doing well at Hockenheim lately, so Loos entered one of his cars with Fitzpatrick behind the wheel. Krebs was second in qualifying, behind Ludwig’s Capri who clocked a stunning 2.12,5. Schommers finally managed a decent practice, and was third quickest; new Goodyear tires, 10 extra HP from the factory and an on-form Fitzpatrick were good enough for P4 and the fastest Porsche time. Wollek had changed to Goodyears as well and was faster than team-mate Kelleners, still Dunlops. Grohs disappointed with 7th despite a new 440 HP works engine. And Zondler was back, but raced in the Swiss category only.
Stenzel was away first (from 6th on the grid...), but Ludwig went by in lap 1 and disappeared into the distance. Krebs climbed to second, with Fitzpatrick close behind. Too close for comfort in fact, then after 17 laps he could pass the BMW driver in the Sachs curve. Krebs got a little agitated, and braked too late in the first chicane when he tried to take back second. He went over the curb stones and damaged his front spoiler, so Schommers and Wollek went by; Krebs finished fifth only, behind Ludwig, Fitz, Schommers and Wollek.

Division 2
Obermoser clocked a time which was a little too optimistic: 2.20,0 was even faster than team boss Basche had clocked. Heyer’s unloved Escort II was partly rebuilt over the last two weeks; a new front axle was installed (like the one on the black beauty), but on the rear things remained the same for the moment.
A hard but fair race between Heyer and Obermoser - with Heyer 1 second in front at the finish. Denzel retired, Hennige came third.
A surprise was the Swiss Toyota Corolla 16 valve car, which we had seen at Zandvoort; there it was beaten by a 1300 cc Datsun, but here the car with Schurti behind the wheel finished 4th overall, its rev counter spy showing 10.200 rpm.
