The final, again at Hockenheim.

Division 2
First the 2-litre cars. Zakowski had improved the ex-Ludwig Escort II a little further: the radiator was moved downwards, the rear suspension was altered and the car was set a little lower yet again. That was all they could do - the GS 2002 was feared, with its 290 HP, unfortunately an extra-strong Cosworth BDG engine blew up on the testbed on Thursday. Heyer was fastest in practice with 2.21,1, although he was clocked by his team with 2.20,6. Obermoser had enjoyed a holiday and was not on form in practice - yet. He was a little depressed as well, since his protest against Hennige (the Kassel-Calden incident) was finally turned down.
A surprise entry was Ertl in the Swiss Toyota Celica, third in practice and a force to be reckoned with in case rain would fall - its Firestone tires far better than the Dunlops of Obermoser and Heyer.
In the end, it remained dry and Ertl was out by lap 3. Obermoser was in the lead from lap 2 until lap 6, then lap 8, and after that it was Heyer who led.
Now all that had to be done was a victory for Ludwig in Division 1 - then Heyer would be champion.

Division 1
The Schnitzer team had found another 20 HP; the engine, which is normally installed at a slant, was now mounted vertically, which gave new room for inlet and exhaust - an invention which would be used in all future Group 5 CSL cars. Grohs’ car had a new paint job, and Schommers had an ex-Ludwig engine under the bonnet. Krebs was fastest in practice, while Ludwig was a little ill - and Wollek clocked the fastest Carrera time ever. Schommers’ new engine blew - it was changed for Ludwig’s reserve engine.
After the start, Krebs shot into the lead - and Ludwig followed, but the gap between them widened. But after lap 11, Krebs is missing, Ludwig leads and Heyer is champion. Grohs pulls off a big show, but retires three laps before the end. Kelleners and Wollek finish second and third after a terrific fight - and a protest of the Tebernum team against all Kremer Carrera’s results in an “all clear”.
The end of a great season.
