Race 1
The first six cars on the grid, headed by Tom Walkinshaw's Escort and the Dolomite of Andy Rouse, were inside the 2.5-litre lap record and the next four were within the 1600 class record, so it was going to be a fast race if nothing else. Rouse led from Walkinshaw, Roger Bell (Dolomite) and Barrie Williams (Mazda) from the start, but Williams soon took third place and powered past Walkinshaw at the end of lap two. A couple of tours later he found a gap at Paddock and seized the lead, and from then on was never challenged.
Walkinshaw took second place from Rouse at Druids on lap four and the two of them enjoyed a body-clanging duel which lasted to the 17th lap, when some side-by-side motoring at Clearways left the Escort with bodywork rubbing on a rear wheel and caused Walkinshaw to ease fractionally. Roger Bell was fourth after dealing with Allan Wilkinson's Escort just after half distance and Gill Fortescue-Thomas came in sixth with the Shellsport Dolomite.
In the smaller class, Win Percy (Toyota) came from behind to lead both works Avengers for three laps, then a slight mistake at Clearways dropped him between Unett and Jenny Birrell. He got the class lead back on lap five at Druids, lost it again at Clearways on the seventh and spun down the field a lap later while trying to retrieve the place. He finished a distant fourth behind Stan Clark's Alfa.

Race 2
Stuart Graham joined the big-engined brigade in a bid to counter Richard Lloyd's new-found speed, and the two Camaros sat side-by-side on the front row for the second Southern Organs race, although Graham's wasn't fully prepared for the fray. Vince Woodman was the almost inevitable next fastest, followed by Tony Lanfranchi (Hemicuda) and Jon Fletcher (Camaro), a superb line-up and all of them inside or equal to the record. A little further back, the Opels of John Handley and Shaun Jackson sandwiched the Capri of Gordon Spice in the smaller class. Lloyd got the jump on Woodman, Lanfranchi and Graham when the flag fell but Graham's bid to get back in the hunt lasted only four laps before the engine started a serious misfire and he called it a day. That was virtually that in the big class, with Lloyd, Woodman, Lanfranchi and Fletcher well spaced throughout the 20 laps. Tony Shaw fought his way through the smaller class battle to take fifth and the other finisher was Brian Pepper, who started right at the back with Stuart Graham's smaller engine after blowing his own, then had the bonnet lifting at one corner and an exploded power steering pump to contend with on his way to ninth overall.
The race was made by the four-litre class. Early on, Holman Blackburn (Capri) and Spice both headed the Opels until Blackburn's clutch broke. The Opels and Stuart Rolt (Capri) then set of after Spice, but Handley veered off course at Clearways on lap 13. The three remaining contenders were right together at Druids on the final lap after some very ragged motoring, but Jackson and Rolt had a huge moment at Kidney which resulted in Jackson missing out most of Kidney and Clearways and Rolt recovering to try the more traditional route on the tarmac. Rolt's route proved best as he just pipped the Opel in a hilarious finish.
