It was thought that this might be one of the last races on the AVUS track, since noise restrictions would not allow for racing soon (I could repeat this sentence each year!). In reality, the track would be operational for another 20 years - with tragic consequences in the end.

Rennen 1
The under-1150 race had a surprise entry of Wolf: his 1300 cc engine would either be outclassed by the 16-valve Alfa Romeos on this high-speed track, but other sources said that he did not want to risk the 1300 engine. He started with a 1000 cc car therefore (and was over 10 seconds faster than his classmates in practice - which raised a few eyebrows), and won his class. The 1150 class was won by the 16-valve 1100 Escort of Steinert.

Rennen 2
Although with only 8 valves in his GTAJ, Dieter Meyer took the lead after the start, but in the end Merl won the race in front of Fischer, both Alfa Romeo. Bergmeister retired with oil pressure problems.

Rennen 3
Beating the 16-valve BMW of Henzler would be the ultimate test for Dahlhäuser Scirocco - it would surely be outpaced on the straights. Henzler had to start from the back after gearbox problems in practice, but after only one lap he was right in Dahlhäuser’ mirrors. The pass took another two laps, but the Scirocco fought back and took over once again - the lead changed from lap to lap. Henzler started the final manoeuvre in the Nordkehre but ran wide, so Dahlhäuser took the inside and raced to the finish. The remaining straight was too short for Henzler, who had to accept second.

Rennen 4
Heyer and Hennige were entered with Zakspeed Escorts and were way too fast for the rest - until Hennige had to give up. The GT class was not won by Dören this time; oil pressure problems dropped him back to fourth, while Jürgensen won the class.

Rennen 5
Frau Odenthal had a Cosworth Capri for the first time (MAUS 5), but at the wet track she lost it either in the formation lap or in the first lap, depending on the source. Polesitter Krebs did not start at all, not wanting to risk his car, but Siegfried Müller did and duly won. Leder won the GT class, with Kiemele retiring.

Rennen 6
The 25 fastest cars in practice started the final, where a battle between Faltz (Müller) and Krebs (Schnitzer) made the race. Krebs looked like the winner here all race, but in the last chicane he was outbraked by Müller, who won the race with only 0,2 seconds in hand.
