In the small class, Slotemaker’s team had its first champion: van Dongen won the race and the championship. Team-mate Lammers won too, and just needed a fifth at the final race to claim another championship. The race for the big group 1 cars initially saw Frankenhout in the lead, Slotemaker a slow starter with a new clutch. When he got going, he was able to overtake and win the race. Deen and Abbenes claimed championships in their class, Deen after yet another win, Abbenes’ fourth was enough for him. The group 2 and 4 field had quite some excitement. Cees Siewertsen had a big lead, but behind him a battle raged between Vermeulen and Akersloot. When Vermeulen and Akersloot arrived at Tarzan corner (lap 13) the order was changed. Not only were two cars from a lower class already there, de Vos in Akersloot’s 1973 car was about to be lapped too. Akersloot took the inside line, Vermeulen the outside line - and de Vos in between. De Vos touched, spun and was sidelined - Vermeulen’s car was damaged too, and limped to the finish, still third in class behind Siewertsen and Akersloot. Harsh words after the finish - but no protests. Kok, in the 1000 cc class, was second, enough for the championship; the 1150 class was exciting, Hettelder second behind Visser, with good chances of a championship. The 1300 class was won once again by Tjan, who now had a chance of a championship, despite missing the first races. Redeker, title favourite, was only 8th after his new fuel injection system gave trouble. Finally, a non-championship 200 km race for group 1 cars took the start. 38 cars, and all of them completed the first lap. Until the pit stops, the Commodore and two Alfa GTV’s led the race, but the pairing of the Commodore was a little better and won the race. |
