Whit Monday started with rain, but fortunately for the organisers the weather improved and race day finally was dry and sunny - a crowd of 18.000 spectators saving the day for the organising NAV, which may have gone bust otherwise because of the expensive F5000 race. The Simca race was won yet again by the Slotemaker juniors Lammers (just turned 18) and van Dongen, but Lammers had to fight more than ever before, running as low as fourth on some moments. The bigger group 1 race was won by Slotemaker himself this time, his Camaro better prepared for the circuit, after a fight with Frankenhout which was decided in Panorama corner when the Opel went a little sideways, enough for Slotemaker to make his move. Alfa Romeo’s won the other classes. The fighting trio of Akersloot, Siewertsen and Vermeulen was reduced to a duo when Vermeulen only had third gear left; Frans de Vos was too slow to follow, so Akersloot won in front of Siewertsen. Van Oorschot, Loek Vermeulen and Kok won the smaller classes. |
