After the oil crisis hit the Netherlands hard, the national touring car fields were surprisingly healthy, in relation to the predictions over the winter.

The little group 1 classes still were Simca all the way. Jan Lammers and Cees van Dongen, 1973 champions, were united in Rob Slotemaker’s team and both won their class, Lammer’s nearest rival Bökenkamp second overall in Lammers’ old car. What a little preparation can do...

The big group 1 cars had an eventful outing, since Maasland and Fresco touched and created some smoke, reducing Henk Post’s vision so that he crashed into poor Fresco’s BMW. Out for both of them, while Maasland could continue. A second DNRT-Commodore for Huub Vermeulen failed to materialise, so Huub jumped into a Mazda RX2 instead.

The group 2 field was divided into two races too; the small class was won by Hans Kok’s Imp after the leading Datsuns both ran into troubles.

The big guns were an easy prey for Akersloot with his beautiful ex-factory Capri, after Vermeulen’s BMW (which was vacant for a long time after the Dutch BMW importer lost interest) blew its engine into pieces on Thursday private practice - on Vermeulen’s maiden trip with the car. Vermeulen would start the race in Frankenhout’s group 1 Commodore to gather some points anyway.
More opposition should have been coming from Cees Siewertsen with his Porsche Carrera RSR. Alas, the car damaged its oil cooler on the warm-up lap, so Cees had to give it a miss. Rob Janssen’s Datsun 240Z was not ready in time, a feat that the lovely car would repeat all too often in the future.
So we were left with Akersloot, Berg with a BDA Escort, and de Vos. The latter had bought Akersloot’s 1973 car, a car already raced in 1972 by Chiotakis. Neatly updated with 1973 bodywork but not a contender for the championship. The finishing order was Akersloot, Berg and de Vos.
