In heat 1, Casoni (De Tomaso) took the head and extended that lap by lap. “Gero” in another Pantera was second, but was closely followed by the Porsches of Schickentanz and Keller. Finally, “Gero” dropped back and retired.
The second heat was more exciting. Casoni led initially but dropped back and retired, now a compact group of Schickentanz, Keller, Fitzpatrick, Haldi, Ballot Lena and Bonomelli was ahead.
After some fights, Fitzpatrick had an advantage of less than one second while Keller, Haldi and Ballot Lena ended up within one second of each other.
Overall, it was Schickentanz who won with Keller and Fitzpatrick second and third.

Noteworthy was the accident of Parpinelli (De Tomaso) whose car was stranded in the safety zone of the new chicane. Efforts to remove it from there were in vain because the car was stuck up to the hubs. Shortly after, Vollery crashed into the Pantera, damaging it a little and this machine too remained immobilised on the outside of the curve.
