The Queen’s birthday made it possible to organise a single-day speed event at Zandvoort, including a group 2/4 race. Siewertsen finally had his debut in the Carrera RSR. While Akersloot took the lead after the start, Cees passed him in lap 4 at Tarzan corner. Akersloot fought back and went into the lead on lap 13, only to be passed again at the fast section of Scheivlak, Siewertsen able to stay side-by-side to the Capri until they reached Panorama corner. Both went sideways, but Siewertsen was able to stay on the track, while Akersloot discovered that the sand besides the track did not improve the Capri’s acceleration. A victory for a very excited Siewertsen, Akersloot complimenting his competitor with his neat driving of the fast car. The next race should include Vermeulen’s BMW in either 3.3 or 3.5 form and then things would be even more interesting. Now Vermeulen relied on the Group 1 Commodore once again, gambled with rain tires and finished fifth. In front of him a sick Escort in third (Berg) and a Capri after a pit stop in fourth (de Vos). Van Oorschot won the 1300 cc class without serious opposition; Dijkstra stayed at home. The 1150 class was won by Loek Vermeulen, and the 1000 cc class was won by de Jong, after Antonides had another retirement while leading. |
