With a clear and undisputed victory John Fitzpatrick put a firm hold on the European GT championship with his Kremer Porsche. He made his intentions clear during practice, where he put the blue car on pole with a second in hand over his teammate Keller. Fitzpatrick won both heats, while some of his adversaries ran into all sorts of problems. Rombolotti was blackflagged in lap 4 since he lost his fuel filler cap, but with a replacement in place his clutch gave up, while fellow Alpine driver “King” had lost his clutch even earlier. Loos got a puncture but rejoined the race, another Alpine (Casiglia) fell by the wayside when his cam cover started to leak oil.

In the short pause until the start of heat 2, the Loos mechanics had changed the gearbox of Schickentanz in record time, but Fitzpatrick of course took the lead again after the start and duly won. Roberto Chiaramonte Bordonaro punctured his rear wheel and crashed spectacularly in the second chicane.
