The Castrol Anniversary Gp1 touring car championship round that closed Saturday's long and highly diversified programme gave Stuart Graham another chance to show that currently he is almost certainly the best Chevrolet Camaro driver in Britain. Having waited until almost the half way mark to pass Richard Lloyd's similar car, when he did get past Graham stormed away to annihilate the opposition. Peter Hanson's Opel Commodore had a decidedly unhappy weekend, leaving Tom Walkinshaw's Capri unchallenged among the 4-litres, while Andy Rouse trounced his adversaries in the 2800CS class to extend his overall lead in the championship. Yet again it was left to the 1600s to provide the real cut and thrust excitement, with Bernard Unett keeping his Avenger's bonnet just in front of Stan Clark's Alfa Romeo most of the time. Since the Gp1 event at the Race of Champions was run on a wet track, new lap records were set in all four classes. |
