Rallying experience was a pro in the very wet race. After the dry practice, it became a Porsche affair since the only De Tomaso present was a DNS after piston failure in practice, Ballot-Lena was fastest.

The race took place in heavy rain, in the lead after lap 1 was Haldi, followed by Ballot-Lena and the Kremer drivers, who did not have the same sort of experience in these atrocious conditions.

After four laps, Ballot-Lena outbraked Haldi, helped by his Firestone tires, and was never challenged to the flag. The others were in trouble; Ekberg started with a double pirouette in lap 6, and apart from Ballot-Lena everybody else followed this example one or more times. Fortunately, only Klauke was injured, the only under 2-litre starter suffering a broken hand after hitting the armco. The numerous spins mixed up the order apart for the first for, who could keep their position: Ballot-Lena wins, Haldi second, followed by the Kremer pair of Schickentanz and Keller.
