Pictures

The lonely Datsun Cherry of Ernst Antonides could not play a role in the middle of the two “Simca classes” in the small Group 1 race. The Rallye 1 class was won by Tonny Zwaanenburg once again, proudly watched by Rob Slotemaker, who was partly recovered from severe burns after an accident in his anti skid school some three months ago. Before Zwaanenburg’s finish he had seen Jan Lammers win his class too, but the activities of his mechanic right after the finish raised a few eyebrows - subsequently, Lammers was disqualified because of a technical infringement.

The big Group 1 car race was won by Coronel in the Alfa GTV, while Fred Frankenhout finished second - he had switched cars with brother Rien. Hettinga finished third, but when he 1 minute penalty (he started a little too soon) was added he found himself in 6th place in class. Rien Frankenhout won his class easily, while team-mate Loek Vermeulen had more competition and despite setting fastest lap he finished second.

The Group 2 cars under 1150 cc were led by Hans Daniëls, who at first some competition from Hans Kok, but when the latter decided to back off to save his class lead Daniëls won outright. Promising was the debut of Koks in the Datsun Cherry - he finished a close third in class, after starting last, but this was reduced to fifth in class when his 1-minute penalty for starting a little too optimistic was taken into account.

The big Group 2 race finally was over before it had started. After Chiotakis had reduced Akersloot’s lead, he had a big off at Tarzan corner and tested the new armco. So Akersloot had an easy win, just like Berg in the 2-litre class. Ernst in the Datsun was second in class after a strong performance with the untested car. The 1300 class had an entertaining fight at first between Deen and van Oorschot, but a few laps from the end Deen took a decisive lead. Boshuis was a distant third, while Dijkstra in a similar Fiat coupé had left the fight even earlier.
