Porsche, Ford and BMW were out in force for the first time together, so we could get an idea of what the production car world series of 1975 would look like. The Porsche Carrera Prototype was getting fatter around the hips, sporting 917 tires now. The second Martini car, a GT, had a fantastic time of 8.24,7, too fantastic in fact, around 8.40 it should have been. An alternative BMW, Muir’s Alpina car, crashed out in practice and did not start. “Next time he should take his own car over here, perhaps he will be more careful with that”, Alpina boss Bovensiepen told the press. He would, incidentally. No real fight in the production class unfortunately, the Martini prototype far too fast for the others, but the GT crashed out. One of the BMW’s would be the hare (Stuck) while the other car would be there at the finish. The Ford versus BMW brigade was reduced to 1 each when Stuck left the road at Wehrseifen (taking the order a little too literally - he was too fast) and Mass retired with electric troubles. Ford won, the Capri the faster car at the ring, one lap ahead of the remaining BMW. |
