The North Sea Trophy consisted of a race for Group 2, a race for Group 4 and a final for the fastest cars of the two races. The entry list revealed some interesting participants.
In the first race, Peltier took the lead on lap 2, ahead of Kautz (Capri) while Gardner spun and Muir had to take avoiding action. On lap five, Bourgoignie took second and four laps later Gardner disposed of Kautz and finally climbed to second. Peltier’s win in the pouring rain was impressive.

In the next race, a fight was expected between Schickentanz and Ballot-Lena, both in the new Carrera RSR. It lasted only a few laps, then Ballot-Lena’s windows were all fogged and in lap seven the inevitable happened and he crashed off the track. Schickentanz won with ease ahead of Henzler.

In the final, the weather improved and the fight between the Touring cars and the GTs was eagerly expected - but as so often in 1973, the Touring cars were faster and it was Muir who led with a handsome margin, 10 seconds over Gardner - and then he missed a gear and overrevved the engine. The final order now was Gardner, Bourgoignie and Peltier with the first GT (Schickentanz) in fifth.
