The long journey to Sweden and the full program for the works teams (Salzburgring, Nürburgring WSC, Mantorp Park and Le Mans) were responsible for a meagre entry list. BMW relied fully on its tuners, Ford sent just one works car. The 2-litre class had a highlight in the freshly homologated 16-valve Alfa Romeo Alfetta Berlina, a car which would have an extremely short career, which was supported by two old faithful GTAms. Alfa Romeo had a surprising 35 points in the manufacturers championship so far, the same number as BMW and Ford.

Fastest in practice was the Ford by a large margin, followed by the Schnitzer BMW (Brambilla/Wollek) and the Alpina version (Muir/Hezemans). The two-litre class was closer, the GS-2002 a little slower than the Escort of local hero Emanuelsson. The new Alfetta (a blue one, a red version stayed behind at Balocco) was faster than the GTAm, no question, but could not reach the times of the fastest Escort or BMW 2002.

22 cars took the start, and for the third time Brambilla took the lead, since Mass took it easy. But after one lap the Capri took over and kept the lead for the rest of the race. But Brodie blew his engine and Stommelen parked the Alfetta after one hour with fuel injection problems. He repaired it himself, only to suffer from clutch failure soon after - and even the GTAm of Facetti had blown its engine. Basche had trouble with his fuel pump.
Both BMWs suffered too. The Alpina car had troubles with its brake fluid but could continue; the Schnitzer car first had overheated rear tires, then a valve rocker stopped working, reducing the car to a 5-cilinder version. It sounded a bit rough but kept the upper hand against Alpina, only to drop out 17 laps before the finish.

Even the Capri was troubled towards the end,Glemser coming in to locate strange noises. He was sent out again, creeping round the track but still winning by 2 laps. Brasta/Ljungfeldt in a private Capri came third, 2-litre victory was for Emanuelsson/Odelfors.
