The small Group 1 class was won by the youngest Dutch champion ever - Jan Lammers, destined for greater things in the future. This time, the big group 1 cars had a straight fight between Frankenhout and Coronel. Frankenhout won after an error of Coronel at Panorama corner. After the race, both camps entered protests against their opponent’s car: Frankenhout’s car was legal, the Alfa Romeo of Coronel rather not. So Frankenhout claimed the title, just like his team-mate Rien Frankenhout and Loek Vermeulen had done the race before. Rien had an unusual car: an Opel Ascona Voyage, previously a rally service car, was prepared with all the goodies of his normal Manta SR. The car won, and was legal, of course. Akersloot claimed the title in Group 2 over 1300 cc with a car lent from Ford Köln. His usual car was driven by Rob Slotemaker, while Chiotakis had organised a stronger engine from the Porsche factory - with the help of Gijs van Lennep. It was in vain, since the clutch cable broke soon after the start. Boshuis finished second in the Alimpo BMW, while Janssen crashed right at the start with a Group 1 Alfa Romeo. The latter competed, just like earlier races, on behalf of Ernst Berg - to fill the under 2-litre class to the minimum of 4 cars. |
