As a replacement for the Formula 1 Grand Prix, first the Dutch tried to get an F5000 race to Zandvoort, while some others tried to get a round of the GT championship here. A few raised eyebrows, but since the F5000 circus had a round at Mallory Park on the same day, they had to settle for a field full of exciting GT cars. But when the promised De Tomaso’s and Daytona’s did not turn up at all, the Dutch organisers were in rage - the GT championship would never again come to Zandvoort.

Eight Porsches in front at the start, Fitzpatrick took the lead but went off when he arrived at a wet section, avoiding a spinning back marker after the rain had set in. He could continue, but only as second after Neuhaus, who made no errors and won. Haldi, the only one to change tires, retired with a broken engine.
