A new idea was launched in this season with a nearly-defunct circuit, which had to miss its yearly international sportscar race: a long-distance race (300 km) for Group 1 cars.
Entries were only allowed for those who had driven their Group 1 car at least twice this season; the choice of a co-driver was free, which led to some great teams: Huub Vermeulen/Tom Coronel (DNRT Commodore), Schouten/Chiotakis (Capri 2300), Hettinga/Slotemaker (BMW 2002 TII), Rien Frankenhout/Hingst (Opel Manta), vd Heuvel/Luyendijk (BMW 2002) and Hugenholtz/Akersloot (Escort Sport).
Fastest in practice were Coronel/Vermeulen, but Tom made a bad start and Slotemaker, Schouten and Luyendijk dived into the Tarzan. Jim Vermeulen (partnering Fred Frankenhout in the unbeatable Ascona) was hit from behind by a fellow competitor and rolled the car into retirement - the car was a total loss.
Coronel fought back to second behind Slotemaker, with Luyendijk and Schouten fighting for third, then Hingst, Post (Ascona) and Koks in the Datsun. Further behind were Dijkstra (Escort) in close contact to Daniëls (Fiat) - the Simca brigade was led by de Vos an Riko, who had opened a gap to the rest.
Now Coronel closed in on Slotemaker, and finally passed him after a few failed attacks, just before “Bos uit”. But Slotemaker closed the gap, the cars made contact at something like 150-170 km/h. Slotemaker nearly lost control, but the anti-skid expert regained control masterly. From then on, Coronel had to check his mirrors, and 10 laps later he lost first place when Slotemaker passed him. Alas, a long pit stop spoilt the chance of victory of the BMW, since the tires had to be changed - while Coronel, despite losing 20 seconds behind a line of disorderly lined up cars for refuelling.
More mayhem at the pits: Dijkstra/Robeer lost the lead in the 8500 class to Daniëls/Deen. Hingst and Frankenhout had moved up the Manta to third overall, and class lead, Post/Dolk were victorious in the 11.000 class - and de Vos/Zwaanenburg won the 7000 class.
So the race was settled - or was it? Vermeulen, with a huge lead, stormed into the pits at the penultimate lap. Panic in the team; the speaker predicted a fuel stop.
Vermeulen opened his window, and spoke to the team manager: “I only wanted to say hello to you!” He stormed out again, leaving the team bewildered. Team-mate Coronel was disappointed: “I thought he would return my glasses, since I left them in the car!”.
More fun and games in Group 2. Dijkstra already was champion, but the other classes were undecided yet. Boshuis and Deen had a big fight, the somewhat tatty looking London Drinks Alfa having a better top speed than the ELF SRT car of Boshuis. A warning was issued against Deen for holding off Boshuis, and in the end he had a surprisingly big lead since Boshuis was caught in traffic.
A third place was sufficient for Akersloot (he had to stop to repair a fuel line!), Chiotakis won in front of Berg - Slotemaker was unlucky once again, retiring with rear suspension problems.
The 1150 class was won by Strous this time, narrowing the championship gap to 3 points to Tjan - the winner of the last race would be champion.
