A Group 1 festival at Zandvoort; a new idea was to split the complete Group 1 entry in half, staging two heats of which the fastest cars could take part at the final. Since there was no official championship anyway, this kind of experiment could take place.
The outcome was unsurprising, however - the level of preparation and the quality of the drivers meant an 1-2-3 for the DNRT in the final, in fact a 1-1-1 since the finish was a dead heat.
But a few details can be added.
There was the Capri GT of Schouten, which was “too fast” according to ELF SRT team manager Oosterman; a limited slip differential was suspected, but not found after the race. Oosterman too entered a protest against the Opel Manta of the DNRT (which was faster in its heat than the Commodore!); all nine points were OK. The Sony Escort Sport was searched for another LSD; OK as well. The only victim of this “after party” was... the ELF SRT Alfa Romeo of van der Pol, who left the parc fermé without guidance of an official. Unlucky and probably unintended, but after some harsh words between race director Huisman and Oosterman the car was disqualified.
A fast newcomer was the Alimpo BMW 2002 of Hettinga; is was quick enough to keep up with the Manta but a puncture on the last lap. It fared even worse in the final, for which it had qualified on position 25 - the grid for the final was determined by the race time (so Frankenhout was on pole!). Hettinga had to brake for another BMW which blocked his progress, and ended up in rolling the car - it was a total-loss.
The 7000-class was won by the new Simca Rally 1 of de Vos.

In Group 2, Akersloot won the battle from Chiotakis; if Chiotakis had not had fuel feed problems, he would probably had tire troubles with the high tarmac temperature. Slotemaker had a bad start and could not keep up with the Fords anyway - and Hezemans, fresh from the Targa Florio had to start from the rear. Despite the 5 seconds delay for those without practice time, Hezemans already had passed some 15 cars at the Hunzerug, but then lost his gearbox and retired.
1300 honours were for Deen, after another fight with ex-team mate van der Vliet - since Boshuis retired with throttle linkage problems. The 1150 class was won by Strous, after contact with Tjan. A protest of the STAR team was rejected. Finally, the 1000 cc class was won by Dijkstra.
