Car info:
The first race of the European Trophy for group 4 cars had an entry consisting mainly of Porsches and smaller GT cars, the latter ones fighting for national championship honours mainly. No Pantera’s here - the homologation was not yet completed. No Ferrari Daytona either. In the small class we saw the fast Opel GT of Christmann and a works Alpine for Thérier, a rally car surprisingly suitable for the Eifel weather - he was fastest in the first wet practice. When the track dried a little, Fitzpatrick claimed pole but the Opel GT was second... Heat one, and the rain really came down. In the lead was Larrousse, followed by Haldi, Fitzpatrick and Thérier. The last one was passed by Steckkönig a little later, and in this order they finished. Only 36 cars took the start in heat 2, and again Larrousse took the lead only to spin off in lap 2; he could continue but retired a little later. Thérier followed his example in lap 4, while Jöst had to retire with a broken seat. The remainder of the race was not very interesting, and the finishing order became Fitzpatrick, Haldi and Steckkönig. |
