The entry for the DRM races at round 3 were still not up to expectations. Division 2 had 20 entries, division 1 only 11. Practice saw besides the Faltz coupé for Joisten, Heyer with a Schnitzer car and Pankl with an Alpina car. Most cars needed very short gearing, the tight circuit needing acceleration power instead of a high top speed. Paul Neerpasch’s Bulova team had a new driver, works man Alex Soler-Roig replacing Liane Engeman, effectively ending her international racing career. Heyer was quickest, Stuck second, Soler-Roig third; in division 2, Menzel was fastest in front of Obermoser and Ertl, the last one claiming DM 5.000 from the BMW incentive system, which was valid for the DRM too nowadays.

Apart from Leibold, whose engine died on the starting line, everybody took the start well, Menzel in the lead, then Ertl, Schüler (who had a very good start), Basche, Roppes and Obermoser, the last one missing a few gears. After ten laps, Menzel had a big lead, then Schüler while Ertl and Basche had an entertaining fight until Ertl had to stop with a steaming engine. Menzel drove brilliantly, but a broken shock absorber was the start of big troubles; he came off the track, went back but punctured a tire in the process, which cost him three laps. So Schüler won in front of Basche.

In division 1 , Soler-Roig showed the potential of the Bulova Capri by leading after lap 1 in front of Heyer, while the Steinmetz Commodore did not disappoint at all. Stuck took over, and after Pankl retired on lap 11 (puncture) and Heyer’s engine met its maker he won, leading Soler-Roig and Christmann, the latter with a sick engine.
