Apart from the three works Capris, the only opposition in Division 3 was the Belgian Schnitzer car of Peltier, a surprise since he crashed in Silverstone the week before. No other BMWs after the two crashes of Stommelen in Zandvoort and another one last week at the Nürburgring. Two Broadspeed Escorts were fastest in division 2; in division 1, no Filipinetti-Fiats, they had had enough, but apart from the trio of Autodelta we have a fourth entry for van Lennep and Hezemans. Now that was another surprise, since Toine left Alfa Romeo in midseason in anger, drove a BMW at the Nürburgring and Zandvoort, then signed a nice deal with Neerpasch for BMW in 1973, then steered the Frami Capri in Silverstone to second overall, now to finish the season here with Alfa Romeo. Now BMW could be positive about this; if Alfa Romeo gained another class win, they would claim the manufacturers championship, not Ford.

Alex Soler-Roig’s ETCC-farewell race started well when he claimed pole in 1.37,07. His team-mate hold back perhaps, Glemser clocking 1.37,77, while Mass scored 1.37,22, Larrousse, looking for French championship points here. hardly slower than Glemser. He teamed with Mass, with an eye to 1973, the third car consisted of Heyer and Birrell, both likely candidates for a works seat in 1973. Another candidate would be Fitzpatrick, here in an Escort clocking 1.40,89, quite a lot faster than Peltier in the BMW coupé (1.44,64) who was just a little quicker than division 1 pole setters Hezemans and van Lennep.

After the start, Ford took the lead and never looked back, apart from the Glemser who lost 7 laps, repairing a fuel pump himself. This caused for action in the pits: the teams were reshuffled, so that the brave Soler-Roig still had a chance of victory. The Dutch Alfa Romeo outpaced its Italian team-mates, claiming a class win and fourth overall, just in front of the Capri of Glemser, though Germany had calculated a 1-2-3 for Ford. But what the heck, Soler-Roig won, the championship was finished.
